Philip Morris and ZIONEX Win Regional Supply Chain Excellence Awards

Supply Chain Council Honors Award Winners at Supply Chain World Conference in Singapore

Supply Chain Council (SCC, www.supply-chain.org), a global nonprofit management association, announced the winners of the 2011 Asia & Oceania Supply Chain Excellence Awards at a special ceremony in Singapore.

In recognition of excellence in supply chain design, operation, and improvement, Philip Morris Limited (Melbourne, Australia) won the SCC Operational Excellence Award. Philip Morris Limited has manufactured and marketed tobacco products in Australia and New Zealand for 57 years. It currently employs over 800 people.

Over the past three years the company has invested heavily in implementing work methodologies consistent with the SCC Design Chain Operations Reference (DCORSM) model, Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR®) model, Customer Chain Operations Reference (CCORSM) model, as well as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles. These efforts have fundamentally changed the company's culture and contributed to dramatic reductions in product development times, enhanced supply chain performance, and improved financial returns.

In recognition of products that enable superior supply chain performance, ZIONEX Inc. won the SCC Technology Advancement Award. ZIONEX develops and deploys advanced planning and scheduling solutions. Its supply chain management solutions are used by many global high-tech companies, including SAMSUNG Electronics, LG Group, Yokogawa Electric, and Bridgestone.

SCC honored ZIONEX for the development of a single lot production scheduling tool that helped reduce order-to-delivery lead times for one of its customers from 41 days to 12 days. The solution also improved inventory turnover, on-time delivery, and demand fulfillment rates, which collectively added millions of dollars to the company's bottom line and improved cash flow by US$74 million.

The SCC Supply Chain Excellence Awards encourage the continuous advancement of the supply chain management body of knowledge and the sharing of that knowledge. In addition to Asia & Oceania, the SCC awards program recognises supply chain innovators in three other regions: North America, Latin America, and Europe, Middle East, & Africa.

The three operational, academic, and technology award winners from each of the four regions compete for the Global Supply Chain Award in each category, as well as the single overall Global Supply Chain Excellence Award.
