|10:05-11:05||Meeting the Defense Needs of the Future with a Reliable Supply Chain
This session will explore how Babcock's Marine Division, a supplier of support services to the U.K. Ministry of Defense, utilized the SCOR model to uncover future supply chain capability gaps. The diagnostic team's goal was to close the identified gaps before the capability was required. By proactively delivering highly reliable service, Babcock has improved the availability of submarines and warships despite tighter budgets. This presentation will walk the attendee through the process of applying the SCOR model for this purpose and review the detailed benefits and lessons learned.

Andy Chapell has wide supply management experience throughout the defence enterprise. He spent the early part of his career as a naval logistician, on and below the waves, before moving away from the front line and into the equipment acquisition and support area. In one of his last roles prior to leaving the military, Andy was responsible for coordinating and commissioning the UK MoD’s logistics research programme. As head of supply chain capability for Babcock’s Marine Division, he is responsible to the board for the continuous improvement of this key business capability. He is also the Babcock lead for the Defence industry’s Supply Chain 21 programme and its sustainable procurement programme.
Andy is a certificated consultancy practitioner, a chartered secretary and has an MSc in logistics and supply chain management from Cranfield School of Management. He has jointly published papers on Defence supply chain risk management, he lectures on a number of Defence Academy supply chain management courses, and has presented at many conferences and seminars on a range of subjects related to complex equipment support.
